The Canadien junior de Verdun ( English : Verdun Junior Canadiens ) were a Canadian ice hockey team from Verdun , Québec . The team played from 1984 to 1989 in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
history
The Junior de Verdun from the Québec Major Junior Hockey League became the farm team of the Montréal Canadiens in 1984 , after which they were renamed Canadien junior de Verdun. The team achieved their greatest success in their first season 1984/85, in which they first won the Lebel Division and after victories in the playoffs over the Olympiques de Hull and the Cataractes de Shawinigan in the finals for the Coupe du Président the Saguenéens de Beat Chicoutimi in the Best-of-Seven series with a sweep . As champions of the QMJHL, the team qualified for the final tournament for the championship of the Canadian Hockey League , the Memorial Cup , in which they were eliminated in the group stage.
In the period that followed, Verdun was unable to continue this success. After the playoffs were reached in the 1985/86 season at least as second division, but the team failed in the first round with 0: 5 wins at the Castors de Saint-Jean , they closed the following two seasons on the fifth and thus last place in the Lebel Division. In the 1988/89 season, the Canadien junior finished the season in eleventh and thus last place in the QMJHL, whereupon the franchise was relocated to Saint-Hyacinthe , Québec , where it was then used in the QMJHL game operations under the name Laser de Saint-Hyacinthe participated.
