James Charles "Jimmy" Carson (born July 20, 1968 in Southfield , Michigan ) is a retired American ice hockey player (center) who worked for the Los Angeles Kings , Edmonton Oilers , Detroit Red Wings , Vancouver Canucks and Hartford from 1986 to 1996 Whalers played in the National Hockey League .
Career
As a junior he was one of the few Americans to play with the Verdun Junior Canadiens in the QMJHL together with Claude Lemieux . He played with the team in 1985 at the final tournament for the Memorial Cup . In the 1986 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the first round as second by the Los Angeles Kings .
As the youngest player in the NHL, he started the 1986/87 season . Together with his teammates Steve Duchesne and Luc Robitaille , he was one of three Kings players who were elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team this year . In his second season in Los Angeles, he made 55 goals and 107 points best for American-born players. Behind Wayne Gretzky , he was the second youngest player to reach the 50-goal mark.
When the Kings signed Gretzky for the 1988/89 season , Carson was the most valuable player the Kings sent towards Edmonton. Martin Gélinas went with him and Marty McSorley came to Los Angeles from Edmonton in addition to numerous first-round draft rights .
Also with the Edmonton Oilers he reached 100 points in his first season. Shortly after the start of the 1989/90 season , he was given to the Detroit Red Wings . In return, Petr Klíma , Joe Murphy and Adam Graves came to the Oilers. At the Red Wings he was unhappy to be in the shadow of Steve Yzerman and asked for a change in the 1992/93 season . A barter brought him back to the Los Angeles Kings. In return, Paul Coffey came to Detroit , among others .
With Wayne Gretzky and the Kings he reached the Stanley Cup final series for the only time in 1993 , but lost to the Montreal Canadiens there . In 1994 he moved to the Vancouver Canucks , but the Hartford Whalers were soon his new team. Carson was far from the achievements at the beginning of his career and moved to the 1995/96 season in Switzerland for HC Lausanne , for which he played 13 games. He returned to the Whalers one more time for eleven games.
His last stop was the Detroit Vipers in the International Hockey League , with whom he could win the Turner Cup .
Carson is of Greek descent. His grandfather changed the name from Kyriazopoulos to Carson.
