Steve Duchesne (born June 30, 1965 in Sept-Îles , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and official who played in the course of his active career between 1982 and 2002, among other things, 1234 games for the Los Angeles Kings , Philadelphia Flyers , Nordiques de Québec , St. Louis Blues , Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Duchesne celebrated his greatest career success, who changed clubs eight times in the NHL and took part in the NHL All-Star Game three times , in the service of the Detroit Red Wings by winning the Stanley Cup in 2002 . He also won the 1994 World Cup with the Canadian national team .

Career

Duchesne began his career in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec with the Voltigeurs de Drummondville , but was signed on October 1, 1984 by the Los Angeles Kings directly without being selected by a team in the NHL Entry Draft . But before he was called to the Kings NHL squad in 1986, Duchesne played another season with the New Haven Nighthawks , a farm team. But already in his first season in the NHL Duchesne was appointed to the All-Star Rookie Team. This was the starting signal for a brilliant career as an offensive defender.

Duchesne left the Kings on May 30, 1991 for Philadelphia. Jari Kurri came to Los Angeles for him . But after just one season in Philly, Duchesne was given up to Quebec. In this change a young Eric Lindros came to Philadelphia. In Quebec Duchesne was at the height of his young career, he scored 82 scorer points for the Nordiques in the 1992/93 season, more than ever again. Despite this excellent performance, Duchesne left Quebec for St. Louis. After two years in Missouri, Duchesne went back to Canada, this time to the Ottawa Senators , which he left two years later - back to St. Louis. It held him there for a year. Back as a free agent with the Kings 1998/99 in Los Angeles, it was immediately passed on again: To Philadelphia. Eventually Duchesne settled down as well: After the 1998/99 season he went back to the Detroit Red Wings as a free agent, where he finally won the Stanley Cup in the last year of his career, 2001/02 . Duchesne ended his career on October 20, 2002.

From 2009 to 2014 Duchesne was the owner of the Allen Americans from the Central Hockey League . At times he also served as president.

International

For his home country, Duchesne took part with the Canadian national team at the World Championships in Italy in 1994 and in the Austrian capital Vienna in 1996 . He won the gold medal in 1994, two years later, after a defeat in the final, it was enough for the vice world championship and thus the silver medal. The defender scored five times in a total of 14 World Cup games.
