The Junior de Verdun were a Canadian ice hockey team from Verdun (now Montreal ). The team played from 1982 to 1984 in one of the three highest Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ).

history

The Junior de Montréal from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec were moved from Montreal to the suburb of Verdun in 1982 and renamed Junior de Verdun. In their first season, the team won the Coupe du Président for the first and only time . After finishing the regular season in second place in the Lebel Division, they beat the Chevaliers de Longueil in the playoff final with 4-1 wins in the best-of-seven series. As champions of the QMJHL, the team qualified for the final tournament for the championship of the Canadian Hockey League , the Memorial Cup , in the semifinals of which it was defeated by the Oshawa Generals from the Ontario Hockey League 5-7.

In the 1983/84 season, Verdun met after returning to second place in his division on the Chevaliers, who managed to take revenge for the final defeat from the previous year with 4-2 victories in the playoff semifinals. Due to the sporting success, the franchise in 1984 again entered into a partnership with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League . It then took part in the LHJMQ game operations under the name Canadien junior de Verdun .
