The Rocket de Montréal ( English : Montréal Rocket) were a Canadian ice hockey team from Montreal , which played from 1999 to 2003 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League .

history

The Rocket de Montréal started playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the 1999/00 season. After four seasons in the French-Canadian metropolis, in which the team was able to qualify for the playoffs three times, but only ended the regular season with a positive balance, the team moved to Charlottetown on Prince for the 2003/04 season within the QMJHL Edward Island , where it played under the name PEI Rocket until 2013 . In the summer of 2013, the team was renamed the Charlottetown Islanders .

The team name was chosen based on the legendary Maurice "Rocket" Richard , who had played for the Montréal Canadiens in the National Hockey League for many years . Richard's number 9 is integrated in the team logo, which was later used by PEI Rocket in a slightly modified form.
