Dennis William Hull (born November 19, 1944 in Pointe Anne , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . Between 1964 and 1978 he played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Black Hawks and the Detroit Red Wings on the position of the left winger . He is the brother of Bobby Hull and the uncle Brett Hulls ; both members of the Hockey Hall of Fame .

Career

Dennis Hull played from 1960 to 1964 in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) junior league for two teams from the Canadian city of St. Catharines ; the Teepees and the Black Hawks . After a successful fourth OHA season for him, in which he scored 48 goals and a total of 97 scorer points in 55 games , he made the leap into the National Hockey League (NHL) at the beginning of the 1964/65 season . He was signed by the Chicago Black Hawks , where his brother Bobby Hull had already established himself as a top performer and star player. He finished his rookie season in the NHL with 14 points from 55 games.

After Hull spent the following season temporarily with the St. Louis Braves in the Central Professional Hockey League , he was able to prevail as a regular player for the Black Hawks from the 1966/67 NHL season . Although his performance and point frequency were at a good level in the following years, he was always in the shadow of his famous brother and teammate until Bobby Hull moved to the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Winnipeg Jets in 1972.

The winger had his statistically best NHL season in the 1972/73 season , when he scored 39 goals and 51 assists in 78 completed games . In addition, he contributed 24 more points in the play-offs of this season in the 16 play-off games of the Black Hawks, before he and his team in the Stanley Cup finals in the best-of-seven series after six games Montréal Canadiens lost.

After 13 seasons with the Chicago Black Hawks, Dennis Hull was transferred to the Detroit Red Wings on December 2, 1977 in exchange for a four-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1980 ( Carey Wilson ) . The attacker was still active for one season for the Red Wings and ended his career after this season.

International

After his brother Bobby Hull was excluded from the Summit Series in 1972 due to his move to the World Hockey Association , Dennis Hull also wanted to cancel his participation in the tournament. However, Bobby convinced Dennis to take part in the tournament. At the 1972 Summit Series, he played for the Canadian national team with the two Hockey Hall of Fame members Jean Ratelle and Rod Gilbert of the New York Rangers in an attack row and scored two goals and two assists in four games.
