Athletic career

Charrière began his career as a professional cyclist in 1997 with the Italian team MG Maglificio-Technogym . For a professional contract he had previously recommended himself, among other things, with a sixth place in the road race of the U-23 World Championship in Lugano in 1996 . He drove his first and only win as a pro in his first season at the team time trial of the second stage of the Hofbräu Cup in Germany Bad torrent along with his teammate Paolo Bettini , Michele Coppolillo , Roberto Pistore , Alessandro Bertolini , Stefano Casagranda , Dario Nicoletti and Marco -Antonio Santaromita out. The most important race in which he took part in 1997 was the semi-classic Gent – Wevelgem . It was there again in 1998. His best result this year was 16th at the GP Ouest France-Plouay .

After his contract expired, Charrière moved from Italy to his home in Switzerland for the Post Swiss team . Here he was nominated for races such as Paris – Nice , the Critérium International or Around the Henninger Tower , before he achieved his first result of the season among the top 15 in twelfth place at the Grand Prix of the Canton of Aargau . A few days later, he finished 14th in the overall ranking of the Tour de Romandie . After contesting the Tour de Suisse home tour in July , he achieved his best result of the season in August at the Vuelta a Castilla y León in Spain , finishing tenth overall. He was among the top 30 in four stages.

For the 2000 season, Charrière and many of his teammates were drawn to the newly founded Swiss racing team Phonak Hearing Systems . Once again, however, he only managed to finish in the top ten as seventh on the Wartenberg tour . In addition, he finished 14th on a stage of the Tour de Suisse and 24th overall place there. In the following year he was ninth in the Bern Tour , but could not take any more top places. In 2002 he was 21st of the Tour de Suisse , where he achieved two stage places in the top twenty. His contract with Phonak, which was about to expire, was not renewed at the end of 2002, whereupon Charrière ended his professional career.

As a result, Charrière competed in open-air races and mountain runs . When he refused the doping control after his fifth place in the Sierre-Zinal mountain run on August 13, 2006 , he was banned by Swiss Olympic for two years, his placement was revoked and he had to pay for the costs of the proceedings.
