( Location ) Ensemble of town center Markt Waging The ensemble comprises the four streets of the market town with their historical buildings that meet from different directions on the small market square. - Waging, located in the foothills of the Alps near the west bank of the Waginger See, was already settled in Celtic and Roman times, was first mentioned in the 8th century as the property of the Salzburg Nonnbergkloster, received market rights in 1385 and belonged to the Archbishopric of Salzburg until 1803. - As Salzburgerstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse, an old thoroughfare, the so-called Untere Salzstrasse, runs through the winding course, the place in the middle of which it expands into a small market square. Within the historical local area, which was formerly demarcated by wooden gates, this street, in contrast to the open development of the later 19th and 20th centuries that followed outside, was built up; it has two- and three-story houses, craftsmen's houses and inns, most of which date from the later 18th and 19th centuries, but are essentially older. These are exclusively plastered buildings, some with plastered structures and stucco decor on the fronts. Some of the houses with their protruding flat roofs are reminiscent of the older wooden house type, which was pushed back more and more after the numerous local fires from the 17th to the 19th century. Another part is committed to the house type of the Inn-Salzach cities with sunken roofs behind facing gables and walls. - In the Bahnhofstrasse in the former Salzburg nursing court building, now Schwemmbräu, the archaeological rule over the place manifests itself; At the same time, the large, protruding half-hip roof reveals the influence of Salzburg. A similar building is the large former brewery inn that dominates the market square. - In the Salzburger Strasse, the large, three-part front of the Hotel Waginger Hof from 1878 dominates the street scene; the building also shows the beginnings of Waging's development as a tourist destination. - The south-eastern of the two side streets, Wilhelm-Scharnow-Straße, is a craft street that is characterized by a lively variety of house fronts and roof shapes as well as picturesque views, while the streetscape of the northern street, Seestraße, the parish church of St. Martin and the Martinihof, the former vicarage, is determined. - The high-lying church towering over the sloping alley and a line of well-preserved bourgeois gabled houses from the early 19th century is a new wall pillar system that was built after the fire of 1611 and was expanded into the 19th century. It is surrounded by the former churchyard, the high retaining walls of which border part of the Seestrasse. The rectory is a strict, castle-like hipped roof building from the early 18th century, which impressively towers over the craftsmen's estate on the northern Seestrasse. - The Marian column and fountain, both from 1854, set a significant urban accent at the transition between Marktplatz and Seestrasse. Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
