Player career

Bill Clement began his career in 1967 in the Canadian Junior League OHA , where he played for the Ottawa 67’s . For three years he presented himself there as a solid defensive striker and was finally selected in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round at position 18. The following year and a half he spent with the Quebec Aces and the Richmond Robins in the second-rate AHL before he was called up during the 1971/72 season in the NHL squad of the Flyers.

At the Flyers, Clement was able to establish himself with his defensive game and won the Stanley Cup with them in 1974 and 1975 . After winning the championship for the second time, he was transferred to the Washington Capitals , which appointed him the same team captain. However, he stayed only briefly in Washington, as he was sent to the Atlanta Flames in a transfer business in January 1976 . In Atlanta he had his personal best season in 1977/78 , when he scored 50 points in 70 games. In 1980 the franchise moved to Calgary and was henceforth called Calgary Flames . Clement played two more seasons in Calgary before retiring in 1982.
