Bengt Roland Eriksson (born March 1, 1954 in Stora Tuna ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Minnesota North Stars and Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League and the Winnipeg Jets in the World from 1969 to 1992 Hockey Association has played.

Career

Roland Eriksson began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of IF Tunabro , for which he was active from 1969 to 1971 in the second Swedish division, Division 2. After promotion to Division 1, he spent another three years at IF Tunabro, where he became Årets Junior - Swedish Young Player of the Year - in 1973. In the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft , he was selected in the eighth round as a total of 131 players by the Minnesota North Stars . Initially, however, he stayed in his Swedish homeland and moved to Leksands IF in Division 1 for the 1974/75 season , with whom he immediately won the Swedish championship . In the following season , the center took part for the first time in the new top Swedish league, the Elitserien , and was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team in its premiere season.

From 1976 to 1978 Eriksson was a regular for the Minnesota North Stars in the National Hockey League . In both seasons he was one of the top scorers of his team and scored a total of 130 scorer points in 160 games, including 47 goals. In addition, he took in 1978 at the NHL All-Star Game in part. On June 7, 1978, the Swede signed a contract as a free agent with Minnesota's league rivals Vancouver Canucks . With the Canadians, however, he was unable to build on his previous services, so that they released him from his contract in the middle of the 1978/79 season . The season he finally ended with the Winnipeg Jets in the competitive league World Hockey Association . Then the Swedish international returned to Europe, where he first ran up in the 1979/80 season for his ex-club Leksands IF in the Elitserien. From 1980 to 1982 he was under contract with the Düsseldorfer EG in the ice hockey Bundesliga before he spent another two years at Leksands IF in the Elitserien.

In the summer of 1984 Eriksson was committed by the Swedish second division club HV 71 Jönköping , with whom he immediately achieved promotion to the Elitserien. In this he spent another year before joining the second division club Västerås IK in 1986 . With this he also rose to the Elitserien in the 1987/88 season. He spent the following season at the third division IK Westmannia-Köping . He then paused for a year with ice hockey before he was also under contract in the third-class Division 2 at IFK Arboga IK in the 1991/92 season . After the end of the season, he ended his career at the age of 38.

International

For Sweden , Eriksson took part in the junior division at the U19 European Junior Championships in 1971 , 1972 and 1973 and the 1974 U20 World Junior Championship . In addition, he was in the senior squad in his country at the World Championships in 1976 , 1977 , 1978 , 1981 and 1983 and in 1976 at the Canada Cup .
