1974 NHL Amateur Draft

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NHL Amateur Draft in 1974 , the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League , the NHL was on 28 May 1974 in the office in the Canadian Montreal in the Province of Quebec instead.

A total of 247 players were drawn in 25 rounds, with only a few teams selecting players in the last round and only three teams drawing additional players from round 16 onwards. The top pick Greg Joly never really made a breakthrough in the NHL. The most successful player in the draft was Bryan Trottier , who was only selected at the beginning of the second round. Other interesting choices were the brothers Mark and Marty Howe , the two sons of Gordie Howe , who was playing with the two in the World Hockey Association at the time. In the third round, Per-Arne Alexandersson was the first Swede to be drawn in a draft, which was never used in the NHL.

Choice of Taro Tsujimoto

A curiosity occurred when the general manager of the Buffalo Sabers , Punch Imlach , selected Taro Tsujimoto as the first Japanese in the history of the NHL Entry Draft. It wasn't until a few weeks later that it turned out that there was no ice hockey player with this name and that Imlach had taken the liberty of joking.
