Patrick Wayne "Pat" Ribble (born April 26, 1954 in Leamington , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 357 games for the Atlanta Flames , Chicago Black Hawks , Toronto Maple Leafs , Washington Capitals and Calgary Flames has played in the National Hockey League (NHL) on the position of defender . Ribble celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the bronze medal at the 1978 World Cup .

Career

Ribble spent his junior years between 1972 and 1975 with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) or the later Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL), after he had been with the Windsor Spitfires in the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League the year before (SOJHL) had gained a foothold in six games in the junior division. The defender completed the three years in Oshawa with 85 scorer points in 214 missions, while at the same time collecting 431 penalty minutes. Nevertheless, his talent led to him in both the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft in the fourth round in 58th place by the Atlanta Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL) and in the 1974 WHA Amateur Draft by the Indianapolis Racers from the then with the NHL competing World Hockey Association (WHA) in the fifth round in 62nd position was selected.

For the 1975/76 season , the 21-year-old finally moved to the professional field after signing the contract in Atlanta. The Flames used him in the course of his first professional season but mainly in their farm team , the Tulsa Oilers , from the Central Hockey League (CHL). With the Oilers he won the Adams Cup at the end of the season . Although Ribble made his debut in the NHL during the season, it took until well into the 1976/77 game year before he could permanently assert himself in the Atlanta Flames' squad. After all, he was a regular player for the team until March 1979, before he was part of the largest transfer business in NHL history - measured by the players involved. In addition to him, five players, Tom Lysiak , Harold Phillipoff , Greg Fox and Miles Zaharko , moved to the Chicago Black Hawks , while Ivan Boldirev , Phil Russell and Darcy Rota took the opposite route to Atlanta.

When the Canadian left Atlanta, an unsteady period began in the following years. For the Chicago Black Hawks, Ribble completed only 39 games across seasons by January 1980. Another transfer brought him to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Dave Hutchison . There he was only under contract for five weeks before he was handed over to the Washington Capitals after 13 missions , which in return let Mike Kaszycki move to Toronto. It was not until the Capitals that Ribble became at home again for a longer period of time and belonged to the franchise until November 1981. By another transfer together with a second-round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft 1983 , the defensive player moved to the Calgary Flames . To bring him back to the franchise in which he started his NHL career, Randy Holt and Bobby Gould moved to the American capital.

Despite the recall, Ribble failed to assert himself in the NHL, and so he played only 31 more NHL games in the following five and a half years. The rest of the time he spent on Calgary's farm teams in the Central Hockey League and International Hockey League (IHL). There he was active for the Oklahoma City Stars , Colorado Flames , Salt Lake Golden Eagles and Indianapolis Checkers . With the Salt Lake Golden Eagles he won the IHL Turner Cup at the end of his career in 1987 .

International

For his home country, Ribble played at the 1978 World Cup in the Czechoslovak capital, Prague , wearing the jersey of the Canadian national team . He was able to win the bronze medal with the Canadians. In ten tournament appearances, the defender remained pointless and collected 15 penalty minutes.
