David Joseph "Dave" Hutchison (born May 2, 1952 in London , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The defender began his professional career with the Philadelphia Blazers and the Vancouver Blazers in the World Hockey Association , before playing over 600 games for the Los Angeles Kings , Toronto Maple Leafs , Chicago Black Hawks and New Jersey Devils in National Hockey between 1974 and 1984 League denied.

Career

Beginnings

Dave Hutchison was born in London and spent his junior years there with the London Squires, among others . For the 1970/71 season he moved to the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA), the highest ranking junior division in his home province. With the Knights he convinced as a physically robust and primarily defensively oriented defender, so that he was considered in the NHL Amateur Draft 1972 in 36th position by the Los Angeles Kings . His professional career began, however, in the newly founded World Hockey Association (WHA), in whose WHA General Player Draft he was selected in February 1972 by the Miami Screaming Eagles . The team moved to Philadelphia before the 1972/73 debut season , so the defender ran for the Philadelphia Blazers . At the same time, he was on the ice for the Rhode Island Eagles in the Eastern Hockey League , before he moved again with the franchise after just one season and was subsequently active with the Vancouver Blazers on the Canadian west coast.

NHL

For the 1974/75 season, Hutchison moved to the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL) and also established himself in this league, which at that time was in competition with the WHA. After four years and more than 250 games in California, he and Lorne Stamler were handed over to the Toronto Maple Leafs in June 1978 and thus returned to his homeland. In return, the Kings received Brian Glennie , Kurt Walker , Scott Garland and a second-round vote for the 1979 NHL Entry Draft . In the following almost one and a half years, the Canadian mostly formed a defender duo with the later Hall of Fame member Börje Salming . In January 1980, however, the Maple Leafs transferred him in exchange for Pat Ribble to the Chicago Black Hawks , in whose jersey he achieved his respective career highs in the 1981/82 season with 18 templates, 23 scorer points and 246 penalty minutes. He also reached the conference final with the team in the playoffs in 1982 ; he should not get any closer to the Stanley Cup in his career.

His time in Chicago ended in August 1982, when Hutchison and Ted Bulley were sent to the Washington Capitals , while the Black Hawks received a six- round vote in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft and a five-round vote in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft . For the Capitals, however, the Canadian was never on the ice, as he was signed by the New Jersey Devils in October of the same year through the NHL Waiver Draft . There he spent most of the 1982/83 season, but was also used for their farm team , the Wichita Wind , in the Central Hockey League . Then the defender wanted to end his career already, but returned in November 1983 for another season to the Toronto Maple Leafs before he finally declared his active career after the 1983/84 season for an end. In total, Hutchison had completed 632 NHL games and recorded 130 scorer points and 1699 penalty minutes. He then returned to his native Ontario, where he worked in the real estate business.
