Martti Jarkko (born November 26, 1953 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player .

Career

Between 1972 and 1979 he played for his hometown club Tappara Tampere . During this time he was appointed to the Finnish national ice hockey team twice for world championships . The two best years at Tappara Tampere were 1975/76 and 1976/77, when he was each top scorer and MVP , achieved the most assists and was voted into the All-Star Game . Shortly before this phase, he was drawn in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft as 235th by the New York Islanders . In 1979 the striker moved to TPS Turku . Three years later, Heinz Weifenbach brought him to the Sauerland to join the then Bundesliga club ECD Iserlohn . There he only spent two years, after which he again moved to Turku for a season . When this brief interlude ended, he played again for Iserlohn over the next two years. There he is still considered one of the best players in the club's history. He ended his professional career in the 1988/89 season with the Finnish second division club Kiekko-67 Turku.

For his services in Finnish ice hockey, he was inducted into the National Hockey Hall of Fame .
