The games of the first unofficial ice hockey junior world championship in 1974 took place from December 27, 1973 to January 4, 1974 in Leningrad in the Soviet Union . Before that, there had been a European ice hockey championship for juniors under the age of 19 since 1969 . It is not included in its statistics by the International Ice Hockey Federation as it was not the organizer. Canada was represented by the Peterborough Petes from the Ontario Hockey League . The host Soviet selection became world champions.
