Jukka Porvari (born January 19, 1954 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League from 1974 to 1991 for the Colorado Rockies and New Jersey Devils, among others .
Career
Jukka Porvari began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Tappara Tampere , for whose professional team he was active from 1974 to 1981, first in the SM-sarja and from 1975 in their successor SM-liiga . With Tappara, the attacker won the Finnish championship title in 1975, 1977 and 1979 and was runner-up with his team in 1976, 1978 and 1981. At the European level, he and his team took second place in the European Cup in 1980, behind the Russian representative HK CSKA Moscow . At Tappara he was not only one of the best players on his team, but also across the league and he was elected to the All-Star Team of the SM-liiga three times in 1978, 1980 and 1981.
On July 8, 1981 Porvari signed a contract as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies from the National Hockey League . In his rookie year , the 1981/82 season , he scored two goals in 31 games for the Rockie and made six templates. At the same time, he came to two missions for their farm team Fort Worth Texans in the Central Hockey League . After the season, the franchise was relocated and the Finnish international joined his successor team, the New Jersey Devils . In these, however, he was only used sporadically and had to accumulate more and more for their CHL farm team Wichita Wind , so that he left the NHL again during the 1982/83 season and joined the Klagenfurt AC from the Austrian ice hockey league .
From 1983 to 1986 Porvari was under contract with TPS Turku in the SM-liiga, with whom he was again runner-up in 1985. In the following years, he let his career end with lower-class teams. From 1986 to 1988 he spent two seasons with TuTo Hockey in the second class I divisioona. He then signed with the third division club Kiekko-67 Turku , with whom he was promoted to the I divisioona in 1989. At Kiekko-67, the 1980 Olympian finally ended his career following the 1990/91 season at the age of 37.
International
For Finland , Porvari only took part in the 1974 Junior World Championships in the junior division. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1977 , 1978 , 1979 and 1981 World Championships , as well as at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and at the Canada Cup in 1981 .
