Yevgeny Alexandrovich Majorov

Yevgeny Alexandrovich Majorow ( Russian Евгений Александрович Майоров ; born February 11, 1938 in Moscow ; † December 10, 1997 ibid) was a Russian ice hockey player (striker). He was the twin brother of Boris Majorov .

Career

Majorov was the first Soviet player to play in Finland. He spent his time in the Russian league at HC Spartak Moscow until he moved to Vehmaisten Urheilijat in the Finnish SM-liiga for 15 games in the 1968/69 season. In total, he scored 122 goals in 260 games in the Soviet league .

He was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team at an early age . On November 25, 1960, he was in a game against Canada for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1964 Winter Olympics . For the national team, he scored 20 goals in 42 international matches. He was world champion once with his team (1963). In 1963 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ". On February 28, 1965, he played his last international match.

Later (1976) he became a journalist and commented on many ice hockey games for the Soviet Union and Russia.
