The 2020 U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship would have been the 22nd edition of the World Championship in the under-18 age group by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . Seven tournaments with a total of 46 teams were planned. Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF first canceled four tournaments at the beginning of March 2020, and then canceled the remaining three tournaments in mid-March.

Top division

The U18 World Cup should take place from April 16 to 26, 2020 in the US cities of Plymouth and Ann Arbor in the state of Michigan . The USA Hockey Arena (3,504 seats) in Plymouth and the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor with 1,000 seats were planned as venues. Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF decided to cancel the tournament in mid-March 2020.

Ten national teams were to take part in the tournament, playing in two groups of five teams each. The two groups sat together after the positions of the national teams at the 2019 World Cup .

Division I.

Group A in Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia

The group A tournament was to take place from April 13th to 19th, 2020 in Grenoble , Slovakia . The games were to take place in the Spiš Aréna , which could hold 6,500 spectators . Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF decided to cancel the tournament in mid-March 2020.

Group B in Asiago, Italy

The group B tournament was to take place from April 12th to 18th, 2020 in Asiago , Italy . The games were to take place in the 3,000-seat Pala Hodegart . Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF decided to cancel the tournament in mid-March 2020.

Division II

Group A in Tallinn, Estonia

The Group A tournament was to take place from March 22nd to 28th, 2020 in the Estonian capital Tallinn . The games were to take place in the Tondiraba Jäähall , which could hold 5,840 people . Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF decided to cancel the tournament at the beginning of March 2020.

Group B in Sofia, Bulgaria

The group B tournament was to take place from March 23-29, 2020 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia . The games were to take place in the 4600-seat Winter Sports Palace. The competition was originally supposed to take place from March 21st to 27th of the same year in the Chinese port city of Tianjin . Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the world association decided at the end of January to initially relocate the venue before the tournament was completely canceled in early March.

Division III

Group A in Istanbul, Turkey

The Group A tournament was to take place from March 16-22, 2020 in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul . The games were to take place in the 900-seat Silivrikapı Buz Pateni Salonu . Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF decided to cancel the tournament at the beginning of March 2020.

Group B in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg

The group B tournament was to take place from March 29 to April 4, 2020 in Kockelscheuer , Luxembourg , not far from the capital Luxembourg . The games were to take place in the Patinoire de Kockelscheuer, which could hold 768 spectators . Due to the coronavirus epidemic , the IIHF decided to cancel the tournament at the beginning of March 2020.
