Plymouth is a city in Wayne County in the US state of Michigan . The population was 9,022 according to a 2000 census. The city is in the parish of Plymouth but is politically independent. The northern part of the city was built over the site where the ghost town of Phoenix once was, and the nearby lake is still called Phoenix Lake .
