The fifth of the group games were to contest a relegation according to the " best-of-three " mode and determine the ninth and tenth place. Preliminary round

On December 28, two American players tested positive for COVID-19 . As a result, the game against Switzerland scheduled for the third day of the tournament was rated with three points and 1-0 goals for Switzerland in accordance with the IIHF regulations. A day later there were also positive cases among the teams from the Czech Republic and Russia, which means that these games were also rated as a 1-0 victory for the respective opponent. Due to the accumulation of cases and the fact that the tournament was sportingly distorted by the games, the IIHF then decided to cancel the tournament on December 29, but left a continuation open at a later date.
