The group A tournament was held from April 14th to 20th, 2019 in the French winter sports resort Grenoble . The games took place in the Patinoire Polesud with a capacity of 3,496 . A total of 9,073 spectators attended the 15 tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 604 per game.

After four years in Division I, Germany returned to the top division with five wins from as many games and a goal difference of 38:12. The Germans also won against the closest pursuers - Kazakhstan and Denmark - with a three-goal difference. Last year's relegated team and host France was only just able to avert relegation to Group B of Division I with a narrow victory over last year's newly promoted Ukraine, who immediately relegated. Both teams met on the first day of the tournament and then both lost the following four games.

The group B tournament was held from April 14th to 20th, 2019 in Székesfehérvár , Hungary . The games took place in the Ifjabb Ocskay Gábor Jégcsarnok , which has a capacity of 3,500 . A total of 7,395 spectators attended the 15 tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 493 per game.

The Japanese team surprisingly secured promotion to Group A of Division I, who succeeded in promotion after seven years of abstinence. The team held themselves harmless in the first four tournament games and defeated, among others, Slovenia, who had been relegated from the previous year, and co-favorites Austria, who ultimately finished second. Japan's promotion was already clear before the last match day, while three teams were still eligible for relegation. Ultimately, the newly promoted Great Britain slipped from fourth to sixth place on the last day of the tournament due to its own defeat against Italy and the victory of hosts Hungary over the Japanese who had already been promoted. Despite four points collected, the team had to accept relegation back to Division II.

Serbia achieved promotion to Group A of Division II with a final 12-2 victory over Belgium. After relegated Australia started the tournament with three defeats and thus buried the hopes of promotion early on, Serbia, the Netherlands, crystallized and the People's Republic of China as favorites to win the tournament. Before the last match day, the Dutch topped the table ahead of Serbia, which they had beaten on match day three in extra time . A 2: 3 defeat against China in the penultimate tournament game and a subsequent win gave the Serbs the promotion. Last year's climber Belgium climbed back to Division III without any point.
