The Men's Ice Hockey World Championship 2022 is the 85th edition of the competition organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The Top Division tournament will take place in Tampere and Helsinki , Finland , from May 13-29, 2022 . The tournament was awarded to Finland at the IIHF's annual congress from May 18-20, 2017. Finland narrowly failed to bid from Belarus and Latvia for the 2021 tournament . After no other nation signaled interest in applying in 2022, the tournament was awarded to Finland. Finland has hosted an ice hockey world championship eight times, most recently in 2013 with Sweden. The main venue will be the Tampereen monitoimiareena , which is currently being planned , and the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki will also be the venue .

In addition to the tournament of the top division, tournaments of divisions I to IV are expected to be held. The two Division I tournaments are scheduled for May 2-8, 2022.
