Bo Berglund (born April 6, 1955 in Själevad ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League from 1973 to 1990 for the Nordiques de Québec , Minnesota North Stars and Philadelphia Flyers, among others .
Career
Bo Berglund began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of MoDo AIK , for whose professional team he was active in the top Swedish division from 1973 to 1977 - first in Division 1 and then from the 1975/76 season in the newly founded Elitserien . During his time at MoDo he was selected in the eighth round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft as a total of 140th player by the Boston Bruins . Since this then did not commit him, he played from 1977 to 1983 for Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien. With his team, he first took second place in the 1978/79 season and was finally Swedish champion with Djurgårdens IF in the 1982/83 season .
Following the championship title in Sweden, Berglund was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1983 at the relatively late age of 28 in the twelfth round as a total of 232 players from the Nordiques de Québec . In the 1983/84 season - his rookie year in the National Hockey League - he scored 45 points in a total of 82 games, including 18 goals, for the Nordiques. He also began the following season with the Nordiques, before he was given to the Minnesota North Stars on December 14, 1984 together with Tony McKegney in exchange for Brad Maxwell and Brent Ashton . By the end of the season he scored six goals and nine assists in 35 games, while at the same time he was three times on the ice for their farm team Springfield Indians in the American Hockey League . Also the 1985/86 season began the Swede with the North Stars, but was transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers together with Dave Richter for Todd Bergen and Ed Hospodar after three games each for Minnesota in the NHL and the Springfield Indians in the AHL . There he could not prevail and was only in seven games for the Flyers in the NHL on the ice, while he was active in the rest of the season for their AHL farm team Hershey Bears .
In the summer of 1986 Berglund returned to his Swedish homeland, where he received a contract with the second division AIK Solna , with which he immediately achieved promotion to the Elitserien . In the Elitserien he was able to convince for AIK especially in the 1987/88 season . In this he scored 63 scorer points in a total of 44 games, including 28 goals, making him top scorer of the Elitserien. For this reason, too, he received the goldpuck as the best Swedish player of the year and was also voted into the Swedish All-Star Team. After the 1989/90 season , the now 35-year-old Berglund ended a career. Since 2009 he has worked as a scout for the Buffalo Sabers from the NHL.
International
For Sweden , Berglund took part in the junior division in 1974 in the U19 European Junior Championship and the U20 Junior World Championship . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and 1988 in Calgary and at the 1989 World Cup . At the Olympic Winter Games, he and his team won the bronze medal.
