The 5th European U19 Ice Hockey Championship took place from March 26 to April 2, 1972 in the Swedish cities of Boden , Luleå and Skellefteå . The games of the B group were played from March 25 to 30, 1972 in Lyss , Switzerland .

Since promoted Romania waived their right to start, the same six teams remained in the A group as in the previous year.
