Leif Martin Holmgren (born May 25, 1953 in Kiruna ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

Leif Holmgren began his career as an ice hockey player at AIK Solna , for whose professional team he was active from 1971 to 1984 - initially in Division 1 and from the 1975/76 season in its successor league, the Elitserien . With his team, the center won the Swedish championship in the 1981/82 and 1983/84 seasons . In 1979 he was also elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. In the 1984/85 season he ran for Vallentuna BK in the meanwhile second-rate Division 1. He last played in the 1985/86 season for AIK in the Elitserien, before ending his active career at the age of 33.

From 1990 to 1993 Holmgren worked as head coach for his parent club AIK Solna in the Elitserien.

International

For Sweden , Holmgren took part in the World Championships in 1978 , 1979 and 1983 . He was also in his country's squad for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . At the 1979 World Cup and the 1980 Winter Olympics, he and his team won bronze medals.
