Pär Mårts (born April 30, 1953 in Falun ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach . Since 2010 he has been the head coach of the Swedish national ice hockey team .
Career
As a player
Mårts began his career in 1971 with VIK Västerås HK in the Swedish third division. At the end of the 1971/72 season, the striker rose to Division 1 with the club . In this Mårts was the best scorer of VIK Västerås HK during the 1973/74 season. For the following season the Swede received a contract with the capital club AIK Solna . Over the next six years he established himself with the club in the Elitserien and was Swedish runner-up in the 1977/78 season. In the seasons from 1975/76 to 1979/80 he completed 174 games in the Elitserien, scored 121 points (63 goals, 58 assists ) and received 63 penalty minutes. Mårts spent the last five seasons of his playing career at VIK Västerås HK in Division 1.
As a trainer
Mårts has been working as an ice hockey coach since 1986. During the 1986/87 season he served as the head coach of VIK Västerås HK. Later he was also a lecturer at an ice hockey school in Västerås, before he was again behind the gang at VIK Västerås HK from 1988 to 1991. This was followed by an engagement as assistant coach of the Swedish U20 national team, before Mårts was promoted to assistant coach of the Swedish national team in 1992 .
In 1995 he returned to VIK Västerås HK again to serve as head coach. In the 2003/04 season he won the Swedish championship as head coach with HV 71 Jönköping . Until 2007 he worked as a coach at HV71 before Mårts was appointed head coach of the Swedish U19 and U20 national ice hockey team for the 2007/08 season. In 2010 he took over the Swedish national team, which won the silver medal at the 2011 World Cup . At the 2013 World Championships in Stockholm and Helsinki he won the gold medal with the Tre Kronors .
