Vincent Trocheck (born July 11, 1993 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League since February 2020 . Previously, the center spent over seven years organizing the Florida Panthers .
Career
youth
Vincent Trocheck was born in Pittsburgh and played for the local South Hills Panthers , Pittsburgh Predators and Pittsburgh Hornets in his youth . At the age of 13 he left his home and was henceforth active for the Detroit Little Caesars in Detroit , about 450 kilometers away . While his father commuted between Pittsburgh and Detroit for the first two years, the family moved to Detroit in the third year.
In 2009, the attacker was selected in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) by the Saginaw Spirit in 24th position, for which he ran up with the beginning of the 2009/10 season in the OHL. Meanwhile his father lived with him in Saginaw ; the rest of the family returned to Pittsburgh. In its rookie season, the center scored 43 points in 68 games, a statistic that it increased significantly the following year to 62 points from 68 games and was subsequently invited to the 2011 CHL Top Prospects Game . After the 2010/11 he was selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in 64th position by the Florida Panthers , but initially remained in the OHL as expected.
Trocheck's breakthrough came in his last OHL year, which he spent in roughly equal parts with the Spirit and the Plymouth Whalers , who signed him for three draft voting rights and Zach Bratina. Overall, the center scored 50 goals and 59 assists in 63 games during the season, which made him the best scorer of the OHL with the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy . In addition, he achieved the best plus / minus statistics in the league (+49), received the Red Tilson Trophy as the most valuable player and was elected to the OHL First All-Star Team . He also represented his home country on an international level for the first time when he won the gold medal with the United States U20 national team at the 2013 U20 World Cup .
NHL
At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Trocheck moved to the Florida Panthers organization , initially for the Panthers farm team , the San Antonio Rampage , in the American Hockey League . After contributing 42 points in 55 games, he was appointed to the NHL squad for the first time in March 2014 and made 20 appearances in the National Hockey League by the end of the season . He then took part with the US senior team at the 2014 World Cup, where the team finished sixth.
The center already spent most of the 2014/15 season with the Panthers in the NHL, in which he scored 22 points in 50 games and thus became the team's second-best rookie scorer. For the first time, Trocheck did not start the 2015/16 season with the Panthers farm team, but instead scored nine points in the first nine games of the NHL season. He finished the season with 25 goals, making him the team's second-best goalscorer, and was subsequently awarded a new six-year contract that should bring him a total of $ 28.5 million. In the following off-season he took part with the North America team, a selection of U23 players from Canada and the USA, as a subsequent nomination for Sean Monahan at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 .
At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Trocheck took over the position of assistant captain at the Panthers , before he achieved by far his best personal statistic with 75 scorer points this season. Within the team that narrowly missed the playoffs, he placed second behind Aleksander Barkov .
After more than seven years in the organization of the Panthers, Trocheck was handed over to the Carolina Hurricanes for the trade deadline in February 2020 . In return, Erik Haula , Lucas Wallmark , Eetu Luostarinen and Chase Priskie moved to Florida.
