Sean Monahan (born October 12, 1994 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . Since 2013 he has been with the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League under contract, which had selected him in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in sixth position. Previously, who played center for the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League .
Career
Monahan began his career with the Mississauga Rebels in a junior league from the Greater Toronto Area . In the Priority Selection 2010 of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) he was selected in the first round in 16th position by the Ottawa 67’s . The player moved to the OHL for the 2010/11 season and completed 65 games for Ottawa in his rookie season, achieving 20 goals and 27 assists . In addition, the center was voted OHL rookie of the month March 2011 after scoring 11 goals and 7 assists in 12 games this month.
In the following season , Sean Monahan was able to increase his points average significantly and scored 78 points in 62 games. The Ottawa 67's qualified as the second best team in the Western Conference behind the Niagara IceDogs for the play-offs . After beating the Belleville Bulls and the Barrie Colts, the 67's were eliminated in the conference final against Niagara. In the 2012/13 OHL season , Monahan was suspended for ten games on November 23, 2012 after he checked an opponent against the head against the Plymouth Whalers . As in the previous year, he finished the season with 78 points.
Sean Monahan was selected by the Calgary Flames in the first round in the first round in the NHL Entry Draft in sixth position and has been part of their NHL line-up since the 2013/14 season. In August 2016, the attacker signed a new contract in Calgary that is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 6.375 million over the next seven seasons. In the 2018/19 season he reached his previous career record with 82 points from 78 games and for the first time the mark of 1.0 points per game.
International
Monahan's first appearance at international level was the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge . At this tournament he ran for the Canada Ontario team and won the gold medal after beating the US team in the final . Monahan get as many scorer points in five games. A little later he won the gold medal with the Canadian selection at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2011 . In addition, Monahan was nominated for the North America team at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 , but canceled due to an injury.
