Oliver Kylington (* 19th May 1997 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player of Eritrean descent who, since July 2015, the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Stockton Heat , in the American Hockey League for Use comes.

Career

Oliver Kylington was born in Stockholm; his father is Swede and his mother is from Eritrea . In his youth he played for the youth teams of Djurgården Hockey , so he led the statistics of all defenders in the U16 SM in goals, assists and points scored in the 2011/12 season . In the summer of 2012 he switched to the youth team at Södertälje SK , where he played mainly in the U20 league SuperElit , where he scored 13 points in 39 games. In addition, he represented Sweden's U16 national team for the first time this 2012/13 season and led the team as assistant captain .

After just one season at Södertälje SK, he moved to Färjestad BK in summer 2013 , where he also started in the U20, but quickly rose to the professional squad and made his debut in the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL), the highest ice hockey league in Sweden. In 32 games in the SHL he scored two goals, with Kylington becoming the SHL's youngest goalscorer at the time with his first goal. He also took part with the Swedish U17 selection in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 and came to a job there. After the season he was selected in the KHL Junior Draft by HK Awangard Omsk in 107th position.

In August 2014 he took part with the Swedish national team in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and reached fourth place there. In the subsequent 2014/15 season he continued to play at Färjestad BK until November, before he was awarded to AIK Ishockey in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan . He should also have participated in the U20 World Cup in Canada, but missed the tournament due to an injury. Nevertheless, Kylington is considered one of the most promising talents for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft , as the NHL Central Scouting listed him as the number one European outfield player in their mid-season report. He had to surrender this rank in the final final rankings of April 2015 and was rated 6th there. In the actual draft, the Swede was selected in 60th position by the Calgary Flames .

After the 2014/15 season, during which Kylington took part in the U18 World Cup in 2015 , he was permanently signed by second division AIK Ishockey , for whom he had previously played on loan. However, the Calgary Flames equipped him with an entry-level contract two months later , so that Kylington moved to North America and, as expected, was given to the Stockton Heat from the American Hockey League (AHL) there during the pre-season . The defender spent the entire season in Stockton, but was called up to the NHL squad in April 2016, where he made his debut for the Flames in the National Hockey League . However, he then returned to the AHL.

During the 2016/17 season, Kylington took part in the 2017 U20 World Cup and finished fourth with the Swedish selection.
