Jaccob Scott Slavin (born May 1, 1994 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League since July 2015 .
Career
Jaccob Slavin was born in Denver and grew up in Erie , where according to other sources he was also born. In his youth he played in his home country for the Colorado Thunderbirds in the regional junior league before moving to the Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior division in the United States, in the 2010/11 season . In the summer of 2011 he represented his home country for the first time on an international level, when he finished fifth with the team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2011 . In his second season with the Steel, the defender had 30 points scorer in 60 games and was then selected in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 120th position by the Carolina Hurricanes . Slavin spent another season in Chicago before returning to his homeland in the fall of 2013 and enrolling at Colorado College . There the defender was now active for the Colorado College Tigers in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), a college league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . As a freshman , Slavin got 25 points in 32 games and was subsequently named Rookie of the Year by the NCHC and voted into their All-Rookie Team and Second All-Star Team. He also took part in the 2014 U20 World Cup with the U20 national team at the turn of the year , where he also came in fifth. After another year in Colorado, after which he was named to the NCHC First All-Star Team, Slavin signed an entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes .
The Hurricanes used the defender at the beginning of the 2015/16 season on their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers , in the American Hockey League (AHL), but called him into their NHL squad after 14 games. There Slavin made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) and established himself in the roster of the Hurricanes, where he has been used regularly since then.
In July 2017, Slavin signed a new contract with the Hurricanes that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 5.3 million over the next seven seasons.
