Sergei Andrejewitsch Bobrovsky ( Russian Сергей Андреевич Бобровский ; English transcription: Sergei Andreyevich Bobrovsky ; born September 20, 1988 in Novokuznetsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey goalkeeper who has played in the National Hockey League Panthers since July 2019 . He was previously active in the NHL for the Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets . In 2013 and 2017 he was honored with the Vezina Trophy as the best goalkeeper in the league. With the Russian national team , he won the gold medal at the 2014 World Cup .

Career

Sergei Bobrowski (April 2012)

Sergei Bobrowski began his career as a hockey player at the Metallurg Novokuznetsk . He had previously been active in the youth sector for the club. In 2010 he was signed by the Adirondack Phantoms .

On October 7, 2010, he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Philadelphia Flyers when he played through the entire game, celebrated his first win in the NHL and conceded two goals in 31 shots on goal.

In June 2012, the Philadelphia Flyers transferred him to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a second- and fourth-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and a four-round vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft . After his first season in Columbus, the Russian was honored with the Vezina Trophy as the best goalkeeper in the league and also elected to the NHL First All-Star Team .

In the 2016/17 season, Bobrowski set a new franchise record with 41 wins . As in 2013, he won the Vezina Trophy and was appointed to the NHL First All-Star Team.

In July 2019, Bobrowski left the Blue Jackets after seven years and joined the Florida Panthers as a free agent , with whom he signed a seven-year contract that is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 10 million. He was receiving the second highest salary of a goalkeeper in the NHL at the time of signing, after Carey Price .

For Russia , Bobrowski took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2008 , where he won the bronze medal with his team. He was also in the squad for the 2007 Super Series . At the Men's World Cup in 2014 , he won the gold medal with the Sbornaja and was awarded the title of best goalkeeper. The following year he reached the final again with the team, but failed in the Canadian selection and thus won the silver medal. He also represented his home country at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
