Career

The introduction of the "blocker" as protection of the stick hand goes back to him, with which he protected his broken arm even before his career in the NHL began. Conn Smythe picked him up when he was putting together a team for the New York Rangers after it was founded. There the manager called him Chabotsky in order to attract more Jewish viewers. After an eye injury, he was dropped in New York and sent after Smythe to Toronto. The special thing about this injury was that Chabot was hit by Nels Stewart in the second final game and could not continue playing. With the Rangers lacking an operational substitute goalkeeper, the manager, Lester Patrick , took over the job and brought the Rangers to victory. In 1932 he won his second Stanley Cup in Toronto . Chabot was also directly involved in the longest overtime in NHL history in the 1935/36 season . He conceded the goal that ended this game.
