Andrew Joseph Ernest Raycroft (born May 4, 1980 in Belleville , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was under contract in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins , the Toronto Maple Leafs , the Colorado Avalanche and the Vancouver Canucks .

Career

Raycroft began his career in the Ontario Hockey League in Canada. 2000/01 he moved to the Providence Bruins ( AHL ), the farm team of the Boston Bruins , after they had drawn him in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in 135th place in the fifth round. This season he was able to present himself in 15 games for Boston. The following season he continued to spend with the Providence Bruins and was only used once in Boston. In 2002/03 he played five times for Boston. The 2003–04 season was his first full NHL season. That season he came to 57 games for Boston and received the Calder Memorial Trophy for best rookie . Raycroft spent the time of the lockout in the Finnish SM-liiga near Tappara Tampere .

In 2005 he returned to the NHL. He came to 30 games in Boston, but struggled with groin, tendon and knee injuries. This season marked his worst so far. Raycroft was able to show only eight wins in the 30 games and recorded a high goal average of 3.7 and a catch rate of only 87.9%. He lost his post as number 1 to Tim Thomas . As part of a swap in June 2006, Raycroft moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2006/07 season , who gave up the young goalkeeper Tuukka Rask to Boston. In Toronto he succeeded Ed Belfour , whose contract was ending. In his first season with Toronto, he equalized the franchise record of 37 wins in one season as a regular goalkeeper , but in the end missed the playoffs with the team.

For the 2007/08 season , Toronto signed the Finn Vesa Toskala, a competitor in the goalkeeping position. Toskala finally prevailed as a regular, while Raycroft could not convince with only two wins in 19 missions. The management drew the consequences and paid off Raycroft's contract, which ran until 2009. Then Raycroft signed a contract with the Colorado Avalanche , where he again stayed for a year. During the 2009-10 season he was back-up for Roberto Luongo at the Vancouver Canucks . On July 1, 2010, he finally signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars . In the second year of his contract, he was also used by the Texas Stars from the AHL , before moving to Europe in the summer of 2012. He signed with Milano Rossoblu , which took part in the first Italian championship again after promotion . The 2013/14 season spent Raycroft at IF Björklöven in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan before he ended his active career in the spring of 2014 and the 2014/15 season as a volunteer goalkeeper coach at the University team of University of Connecticut became active.
