Ted Lindsay Award
The Ted Lindsay Award (until April 29, 2010 Lester B. Pearson Award ) is an ice hockey award in the National Hockey League , which has been presented to the most valuable players in the regular season since 1971 by the National Hockey League Players' Association NHLPA . In contrast to the Hart Memorial Trophy , which has been awarded to the league's MVP since 1924 , the winners are not chosen by journalists but by the players themselves.
The trophy was named after Lester B. Pearson , Prime Minister of Canada from 1963 to 1968 and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 . On April 29, 2010 the name was changed to Ted Lindsay Award. Ted Lindsay was instrumental in founding the NHLPA as a player.
