Charlie Conacher Humanitarian Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Charlie Conacher Humanitarian Award (also Charlie Conacher Memorial Trophy ) was an ice hockey trophy in the National Hockey League . It was awarded annually between 1968 and 1984 to an NHL player who had distinguished himself in the course of his career through special social or community engagement. The award was named after Charlie Conacher , who died of esophageal cancer in 1967. The award ceremony was not part of the NHL Awards , but was accompanied by an annual benefit dinner that raised over $ 2 million for the Charlie Conacher Research Fund for Cancer by 1984 .

The Charlie Conacher Humanitarian Award was replaced by the King Clancy Memorial Trophy , which has been awarded by the NHL since 1988 according to similar criteria.
