Mark Messier Leadership Award

The Mark Messier Leadership Award is a trophy of the North American ice hockey league NHL , which is given at the end of a season to players who excel through their leadership skills. There was also a monthly award during the 2006/07 season .

The trophy is named after former ice hockey player Mark Messier , who is considered one of the greatest leaders in NHL history. Messier was the team captain of the Vancouver Canucks , Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers between 1988 and 2004 . He himself selects the winners in cooperation with the NHL. The prize was awarded for the first time during the 2006/07 season.
