1997 NHL Awards

The 1997 NHL Awards are ice hockey honors and were presented on June 19, 1997 .

Dominik Hašek was the first goalkeeper to be recognized as the best and most valuable player in a year. Paul Kariya won the NHL's fairest player award for the second year running , and Brian Leetch won the best defender trophy for the second time. Mario Lemieux ended his career as the best scorer of the season, which he would continue three years later. Bryan Berard , who was named best rookie , was new to the NHL this season .

Calder Memorial Trophy Awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association to the player who is considered to be the most capable in his freshman year


Lady Byng Memorial Trophy Awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association to the player who excelled through a high standard of sport and fair behavior


Jack Adams Award Awarded by the NHL Broadcasters' Association to the coach who contributed most to the success of his team


King Clancy Memorial Trophy Awarded to the player who excelled through leadership skills, both on and off the ice, and through community engagement


Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy Awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association to the player who showed perseverance, dedication, and fairness in and around ice hockey


Conn Smythe Trophy Awarded to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Play Offs


Art Ross Trophy Awarded to the best scorer of the season


William M. Jennings Trophy Awarded to the goalkeeper (s) who have made at least 25 appearances and whose team has conceded the fewest goals in the season


NHL Plus / Minus Award Awarded to the player who has the best plus / minus statistics during the season
