James "Jim" Campbell (born April 3, 1973 in Worcester , Massachusetts ) is a retired American ice hockey player . During his active career, he played 285 NHL games for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , St. Louis Blues , Montréal Canadiens , Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League .
Career
The Campbell selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1991 by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round in 28th position gained first experience in the National Hockey League at the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , for which he scored his first two goals. His career began in 1991 in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League with the Hull Olympiques , where he scored 85 points in 64 games in his first season.
After moving to the St. Louis Blues , he rose to become a regular and was appointed to the NHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the 1996/97 season . He qualified with the Blues for the playoffs, but the team lost in the second round to the Detroit Red Wings . In the following two seasons, the American could no longer build on previously shown performances. In the summer of 2000 he was signed by the Montréal Canadiens, which he left a short time later to join the Chicago Blackhawks and the Florida Panthers . In 2002 he went to the San Antonio Rampage and became a leader there because of his strong performances. After many more games in the AHL and only one in the NHL, he went to Switzerland in 2006 to the EHC Basel and then to the EHC Visp .
International
At the international level, Campbell represented his home country at the World Junior Championships in 1992 and 1993 . A year later he represented the United States at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway . He also played at the A World Championships in 1997 and 2001 . In 1992 he won the bronze medal with the USA, in 2001 he finished fourth.
