Matthew Highmore (born February 27, 1996 in Halifax , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . He has been under contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League since March 2017 and also works for their farm team , the Rockford IceHogs , in the American Hockey League .
Career
As a junior player, Matthew Highmore was active with the Darthmouth Ice Dawgs and was drawn in the LHJMQ Entry Draft 2012 as the eighth player by the Saint John Sea Dogs , for which he was used in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ). In the first two years with the Sea Dogs, Highmore came to a total of 98 missions and scored 59 points scorer . Before the start of the 2014/15 season , he became assistant captain of the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Despite performing well in the LHJMQ, Highmore was not drawn in either the 2014 or 2015 NHL Entry Draft . In the 2016/17 season , Highmore was the Sea Dogs player with the highest score with 89 points and was awarded the Pepsi Top Scorer Award . In March 2017 he was signed as an undrafted player by the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League and given a three-year contract. In addition, he won the playoffs of the LHJMQ for the Coupe du Président with the Sea Dogs that year .
At the beginning of the 2017/18 season , Matthew Highmore initially worked for the Rockford IceHogs , the Chicago Blackhawks' farm team , in the American Hockey League . On December 27, 2017, he scored the first hat trick of his professional career against the Iowa Wild . As one of the top scorers on his team, Highmore took part in the AHL All-Star Classic 2018 together with his teammate Carl Dahlström . On February 24, 2018, Highmore scored his twentieth goal, making him the first IceHogs player to score more than 20 goals in his debut season. Highmore was called up to the Chicago Blackhawks roster on February 26, 2018, and made his NHL debut on March 1, 2018 against the San Jose Sharks . He scored his first goal ten days later in the loss to the Boston Bruins . Together with the IceHogs, Highmore took part in the play-off games of the Calder Cup , where the team moved into the conference finals and lost to the Texas Stars there .
Prior to the 2018/19 season, Highmore attended the Chicago Blackhawks training camp but was reassigned to the Rockford IceHogs on September 26, 2018, where he was appointed assistant captain. Shortly after the start of the season, however, he suffered a shoulder injury, due to which he missed almost the entire 2018/19 season.
International
On an international level, Highmore took part with the Canada Atlantic team in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 and finished eighth with the team.
