Drake Caggiula (* 20th June 1994 in Pickering , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player , who in since December 2018 Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger plays.

Career

Caggiula initially spent his junior years from 2010 to 2012 with the Stouffville Spirit in the lower-class Ontario Junior Hockey League . Only at the beginning of the 2011/12 season he played a few games for the Des Moines Buccaneers in the United States Hockey League before returning to Stouffville and leading the team as the most valuable player in the play-offs to win the championship. In the summer of 2012, the striker enrolled at the University of North Dakota . In addition to his studies, he played parallel for the following four years for the university's ice hockey team - first in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, then later in the newly introduced National Collegiate Hockey Conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's game operations . Overall, Caggiula played 162 games over the course of four seasons, in which he collected 127 points scorer . At the end of the 2014/15 season, he was selected as the NCHC's Second All-Star Team.

Since the left winger was not considered in any NHL entry draft , he was signed by the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League after completing his time at college as a free agent in May 2016 . After he missed the start of the season there due to an injury, he finally celebrated his NHL debut after his recovery in mid-November and subsequently established himself in the squad of the Oilers. In December 2018, however, Edmonton gave it to the Chicago Blackhawks along with Jason Garrison and received Brandon Manning and Robin Norell in return .
