James Sheppard (born April 25, 1988 in Lower Sackville , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who will be under contract with the Kölner Haien from the German Ice Hockey League from the 2020/21 season and will play in the center position for them.
Career
James Sheppard began his career as a hockey player with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles , for which he was active from 2004 to 2007 in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the first round as the ninth player of the Minnesota Wild , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2007/08 season . In his rookie year , the attacker scored a total of 19 points in 78 games and provided an assist in six playoff games. In the following season, the Canadian was in all 82 games of the season Minnesota on the ice and scored a total of 24 points scorer, including five goals. In the 2010/11 season Sheppard was still under contract with the Minnesota Wild, but played no game due to injury.
In August 2011, the San Jose Sharks signed him, where he was regularly used in the episode. In March 2015, he was signed by the New York Rangers , who in return sent a four-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to San Jose. Sheppard ended the season with the Rangers, but did not receive a new contract afterwards. He took after the training camp of the Columbus Blue Jackets in part (professional tryout contract) , but was not adopted. As a result, Sheppard moved first to Europe and signed a one year contract with the Kloten Flyers of the National League A . While preparing for the 2016/17 season, the Vancouver Canucks signed Sheppard on a trial basis, but again did not include him in their NHL squad, so he signed a new one-year contract in Kloten in October 2016.
In July 2017 he was signed by Eisbären Berlin from the German Ice Hockey League . For the polar bears he was active for 3 seasons and during this time he developed into a top performer of the team. In the 2019/20 season in particular , the center forward formed a successful attack line with the German players Marcel Noebels and Leonhard Pföderl . For the 2020/21 season, Sheppard switched to league competitor Kölner Haie , where he is again training under coach Uwe Krupp , as in his first year with the polar bears .
International
Sheppard played for Canada Atlantic in the 2005 World U-17 Hockey Challenge . In six tournament games he scored six goals and prepared another four. He was the sixth best scorer of the tournament and behind Brad Marchand second best of his team, with whom he won the bronze medal.
