Frederik "Freddie" Tiffels (born May 20, 1995 in Cologne ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Kölner Haien from the German Ice Hockey League since September 2018 and plays for them in the position of the left winger . His older brother Dominik Tiffels is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Tiffel's positions in the junior division were initially in Krefeld and Cologne, before he switched to the young eagles Mannheim and won the championship title in the German junior league with the Electoral Palatinate in 2012 . He then continued his development in North America. Between 2012 and 2014 he played for a total of three teams in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He also attended Mona Shores High School . At the beginning of the 2014/15 school year, the native of Cologne began studying economics at Western Michigan University and became a member of the ice hockey team at the university in Kalamazoo .

In the NHL Entry Draft 2015 Tiffels was selected in the sixth round at a total of 167th position by the Pittsburgh Penguins from the National Hockey League . Two years later, the striker received an NHL entry contract with a term of two years from the reigning Stanley Cup winner . At the end of September 2017 Tiffels was removed from Pittsburgh's squad and passed on to the NHL club's farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the American Hockey League (AHL). In the 2017/18 game year Tiffels was on the ice in twelve AHL games and in 44 ECHL games (with the Wheeling Nailers ). For Wheeling, the striker had 16 goals and 16 assists. He did not get to work in the NHL.

In September 2018 Tiffels signed a contract with the Kölner Haien , which will run until 2021 .

International

After appearances for Germany in the junior division, Tiffels made his debut in the German national team on April 6, 2017 in a duel with Norway . In the world championship game against Russia on May 8, 2017, he scored his first goal at a world championship with a 3-6 final score. On May 16, 2017, he scored the 4-3 winning goal against Latvia in a penalty shootout, and his goal made the German team the quarter-finals of the home World Cup.
