Western Michigan University
The Western Michigan University (also WMU called) is a public university in Kalamazoo in the southwest of the US state of Michigan . More than 26,200 students (as of June 2005) are enrolled at the university. The WMU is particularly known for its research and teaching in the field of aviation and paper technology ( paper technologist , paper engineer ).
history
The educational institution was founded in 1903 as a teacher 's college . The oldest part of the WMU is thus today's College of Education and Human Development . In 1955, the institution previously known as Western Michigan College of Education was renamed Western Michigan College , and one year later it was reorganized into 5 areas: School of Applied Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and School of Graduate Studies . In 1970 these schools were renamed colleges.
