Mark Letestu (born February 4, 1985 in Elk Point , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League since July 2019 .
Career
Mark Letestu began his career as a hockey player with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, for which he was active from 2002 to 2006 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League . In the 2006/07 season, the attacker played for the Western Michigan University team .
On March 22, 2007, he was awarded a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent without ever having been drafted . For Pittsburgh's farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , he made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2006/07 season , receiving two penalty minutes in five games. After he was used in the 2007/08 season in parallel for Wilkes-Barre in the AHL and the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL , he played exclusively for Wilkes-Barre in the 2008/09 season . In the following season he was mainly in Wilkes-Barre in action, but also made his NHL debut for the Pittsburgh Penguins, before the center in the course of the 2010/11 season thanks to his good performance a regular place in the NHL squad of the Penguins he fought. On November 8, 2011, the Penguins transferred him to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a four-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft .
After almost three and a half years in Columbus, his expiring contract was not extended, as a result of which he joined the Edmonton Oilers in July 2015 .
In February 2018, the Oilers gave Letestu in exchange for Pontus Åberg to the Nashville Predators , who transferred him directly to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a four-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . In Columbus, he ended the 2017/18 season and initially did not receive a continuing contract from the Blue Jackets. In September 2018, however, he rejoined his old employer, who then promptly handed him over to the AHL farm team, the Cleveland Monsters . He then moved to Winnipeg Jets as a free agent in July 2019 . However, he missed most of the following season 2019/20 due to myocarditis .
