Tucker Poolman (born June 8, 1993 in Dubuque , Iowa ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL) since March 2017 and plays for them in the position of defender .

Career

Tucker Poolman is in East Grand Forks ( Minnesota grew up), where he first for the East Grand Forks High School played. After a year with the Wichita Falls Wildcats in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), he moved to the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League (USHL). Due to his good performance with the Lancers , Poolman was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in the fifth round in 127th position by the Winnipeg Jets .

From 2014 to 2017 he played for the University of North Dakota team , the Fighting Hawks , in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). With the Fighting Hawks , he won the title of best team in the division in 2015 and 2016, followed by the national title of the NCAA . In the 2016/17 season he was also part of the NCHC's First All-Star Team. He was also named NCHC Best Defensive Defenseman in the 2016/17 season .

In March 2017 he signed an entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets and was active in the American Hockey League (AHL) for their farm team , the Manitoba Moose , for the first time at the start of the 2017/18 season .

He made his NHL debut in the jersey of the Jets on October 9, 2017 in a 5-2 away win at the Edmonton Oilers , his first goal in the NHL he scored in the 5-2 away defeat at the New York Islanders . After he had spent the following season 2018/19 exclusively in the AHL, he established himself in the NHL squad of the Jets for the 2019/20 season.
