With the start of the 2015/16 season, Ehlers is in the NHL squad of the Jets. He finished his first season with 38 scorer points from 72 games, making him the jets rookie with the highest points this year. After significantly increasing this statistic in the following year with 64 scorer points, he signed a new contract in Winnipeg in October 2017, which - starting with the 2018/19 season - brought him an average annual salary of 6 million US dollars over the next seven years should.

After winning the silver medal at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge with Denmark's U19s , he took part in the 2015 U20 World Cup with the U20s and finished eighth there. The attacker made his debut for the senior national team in his home country at the 2016 World Cup , where he also finished eighth with the team.
