Nicholas "Nick" Shore (born September 26, 1992 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets from the National Hockey League since December 2019 and plays for them on the position of the center . His older brother Drew Shore is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
After Shore had initially played in the state of Colorado , he moved at the age of 16 to the US National Team Development Program of the US ice hockey association USA Hockey . There he played for their selections until the summer of 2010 in the North American Hockey League and United States Hockey League . The center forward then returned to his hometown and began studying at the University of Denver . With their ice hockey team, the Pioneers , he was active in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , for the next three years . He was elected twice to the all-academic team of the division and selected in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in 82nd place by the Los Angeles Kings .
The Kings signed their draft pick after graduating in April 2013. They first used the attacker in the course of the 2013/14 season in their farm team , the Manchester Monarchs , in the American Hockey League . There Shore collected 38 scorer points in 68 games and was therefore recommended for the following season. In the 2014/15 season he finally made his NHL debut and commuted between Kings and Monarchs. The game year was crowned by winning the Calder Cup with Manchester. For the 2015/16 season , the American finally worked out a regular place in the Kings squad.
After almost five years in the organization, the Kings handed it over to the Ottawa Senators along with Marián Gáborík in February 2018 and received Dion Phaneuf and Nate Thompson in return . Just a few days later, the Senators sent him to the Calgary Flames for the trade deadline and received a seven-round vote for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . He ended the 2017/18 season in Calgary, but was not given a continuing contract, so he was looking for a new employer from then on. He finally found this in October 2018 when he signed a one-year contract with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL). He fulfilled this and then returned to the NHL by signing another one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July 2019 . When he was supposed to be sent to the AHL via the waiver in December 2019 , his contract was taken over by the Winnipeg Jets .
International
Shore represented his home country at the 2010 U18 World Junior Championship in Belarus . He played all seven tournament games and collected ten scorer points. Among them were three goals, two of which he scored in the semifinals. Together with Adam Clendening and Rocco Grimaldi , he was the best scorer within the team. The Americans won the gold medal by beating Sweden 3-1 in the final.
