Career
Kevin Cheveldayoff began his professional career in 1986 with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League . In his debut season with the Wheat Kings, the defender made his breakthrough in the WHL, when he was on the ice in 70 games of the regular season. In the following season he improved his attacking statistics and scored 32 points scorer in 71 regular season matches. Cheveldayoff, who was considered an inconspicuous defensive defender, was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 in the first round in 16th position by the New York Islanders . A few weeks earlier, following the WHL season, he had been named WHL Scholastic Player of the Year , an award that is given annually to the player who best combines sporting success and good academic performance. The Canadian went on for two years for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL, while he gained his first experience with the Springfield Indians in the American Hockey League during the 1989/90 season .
Cheveldayoff then worked for the New York Islanders' farm team , the Capital District Islanders , for three seasons in the AHL, where he was assistant captain from 1991 to 1993. Although he was on the ice in numerous matches in the AHL, the defensive player was denied a use for the New York Islanders in the NHL. It was followed by a season with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the International Hockey League before the player ended his playing career due to a knee injury.
After retiring as an active player, the Canadian started a career as a coach and official. First he was from 1995 to 1997 with the Utah Grizzlies in the IHL as an assistant coach under Butch Goring behind the gang and was his right-hand man. From 1997 he was active in the Chicago Wolves organization as general manager. Under his 12-year leadership, the team won the Turner Cup and the Calder Cup twice . For the 2009/10 season , the Canadian was promoted to assistant general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks , whose position he held for two years. In his debut season, the Canadian won the prestigious Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks . In June 2011, he was introduced as General Manager of Winnipeg Jets .
