Mason Appleton (born January 15, 1996 in Green Bay , Wisconsin ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League since July 2017 and for their farm team, the Manitoba Moose , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

Mason Appleton was born in Green Bay, where he attended Ashwaubenon High School and the Notre Dame Academy in his youth , for whose ice hockey teams he played in regional high school leagues. For the 2014/15 season, the attacker moved to the Tri-City Storm in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest-ranking junior league in the United States. In the Storm jersey, he recorded 40 points scorer in 54 games, so that he was considered in the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2015 in 168th position by the Winnipeg Jets . As a result, the American enrolled at Michigan State University , for whose Spartans he then competed in the Big Ten Conference , a league of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He also established himself as a regular scorer at college level, so that the Jets provided him with an entry-level contract in July 2017 .

At the start of the 2017/18 season, Appleton was used on the Jets farm team , the Manitoba Moose , in the American Hockey League (AHL). There he played an outstanding first professional season, so he became the fourth best scorer in the entire AHL with 22 goals and 44 assists, so that he was appointed as a right winger in the AHL First All-Star Team . In addition, he was honored with the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award as the best rookie in the league and elected to the AHL All-Rookie Team . After he had started the 2018/19 season with the Moose, the Jets called him for the first time in November 2018, so that he made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) a little later .
