Laurent Brossoit (born March 23, 1993 in Port Alberni , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League since July 2018 .
Career
Brossoit spent his junior years in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and in the Western Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings . He was active for the latter between 2010 and 2013. In the 2011/12 season he led the team to win the Ed Chynoweth Cup , while he was also honored with the WHL Playoff MVP award. The previous summer he was selected by the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round in 164th place.
After finishing his junior career, the goalkeeper signed a contract with the Flames and was initially used in the American Hockey League and ECHL before he transferred to the Edmonton Oilers in November 2013 together with the Czech Roman Horák . In exchange, goalkeeper Olivier Roy and Ladislav Šmíd went to Calgary. Brossoit returned to the city where he had spent his successful career in the junior sector. Initially, the goalkeeper continued to play in the ECHL and sporadically in the AHL for the Oilers' farm teams . It was not until the 2014/15 season that he made the permanent leap into the AHL, where he was the goalkeeper of the Oklahoma City Barons . During the season, the goalkeeper also made his debut in the NHL for Edmonton. The season 2015/16 he spent with the Bakersfield Condors , the new partner of the Edmonton Oilers. He played again in a few NHL encounters, but Brossoit had to wait until mid-January 2017 to be promoted to the back-up of Cam Talbot in Edmonton's roster.
After five years in the Organization of the Oilers, the Canadian did not receive a further contract, so he joined the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent in July 2018 .
International
Brossoit guarded the goal for Team Canada Pacific at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2010 . There he was in two of five games in the goal of the team that finished the tournament in fifth place.
